Sunday 11th November – remembrance and respect

This was my Silent Sunday image today:

I always make a point of going to the ceremony in our village. The playing of the “Last Post” is very evocative and never fails to move me. The ex soldiers still standing proudly with their medals, their numbers dwindling with the passing of time and the circle of life. Not so the people who come to watch, their numbers increasing every year to pay their respects, to remember.

Remembrance Sunday always makes me think of my grandad and his war service. My grandma was always so proud of him and her favourite photo was a picture of him in uniform, taken during WW2, “my handsome boy” she always used to say.

We don’t have anyone serving in the military in the family now but tremendous respect to everyone that does, the work of the Royal British Legion remains as vital as ever.

It’s been a not-too-bad day autism-wise. T had an opportunity for some football practice late morning so he burnt off some energy whilst D and I waited in the Goals Soccer Centre, it wasn’t busy at all, which suited D fine, she was very relaxed. There were music channels playing and one of the songs was an acoustic-y 1D song, very mushy, all about luuuurve. D watched the video with the most incredibly soppy expression on her face and said she loved it. I think she was more into the song’s sentiments than the band and was soon laughing away at the next video – Jedward!!

T’s football session overran by quite a lot so it was a mad rush to catch a bus into town, we were heading for a MaccyD – they both like collecting the Madagascar 3 toys in the happy meals. Today’s toy was the Russian tiger character and I was very surprised at the similarity between him and our grumpy cat!

Same stern expression with the “I’m going to swipe you if you don’t get out of my space”!

Town was incredibly busy (I know, run-up to Christmas), D very comfortable in big buggy but if I could have charged £1 for every stare/comment I’d have come away a lot wealthier – what’s happened to “live and let live”?

Needless to say, we didn’t stay very long, it was a do-what-we-had-to-do and leave for home, following an unscheduled shop stop, which left T very agitated and upset. When I tried to explain to him that sometimes things don’t always go to plan and yes, I forgot we needed some groceries, he was very much “you promised we’d only needed one thing”, ummm no, but these unscheduled things will happen during his life and I guess it’s reinforcing that they will and that it’s okay if they do. Rotten, forgetful Mumma that I am!

All very happy to be home until the subject of homework came up with D. Today’s was just a case of writing some “news” – a sentence for yesterday and three for today. She really really struggles with handwriting, bless her. It was done eventually but it took a lot of effort.

All is calm now, melatonin has taken effect. There were already some school anxieties but they’re anticipated these days.

I hope everyone’s had a good day, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx 😘
