Me and my girl and boy, raising awareness and acceptance of autism

Today’s Music Monday is in honour of my friend who’s birthday it is today. She doesn’t text/tweet/email so I’m going to have to *quelle horreur* use snail mail and post it off to her.

I’ve mentioned the song previously that got me into music – Ultravox’s Vienna – and this is hers.

This video – click to watch – used to make us really laugh at the point 1min 35 seconds in where Terry Hall goes from suddenly serious to manic. Those were the days, along with Slush Puppies, bags of Revels and what time we’d get a bus at the weekend to buy a new single from Boots and a lipstick.

We met (omg) DECADES ago in secondary school, seated next to each other in a macramé class (pot hangers), seated together because our surnames began with the same letter and that was that!

We had plans for a flat in London, I was going to be an air hostess, she was going to be in a band. Naturally life didn’t turn out like that, but ….you know..it’s okay.

Here’s the lyrics to the song, just as relevant now as then:

“This town, is coming like a ghost town
All the clubs have been closed down
This place, is coming like a ghost town
Bands won’t play no more
too much fighting on the dance floor

Do you remember the good old days
Before the ghost town?
We danced and sang,
And the music played inna de boomtown

This town, is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place, is coming like a ghost town
No job to be found in this country
Can’t go on no more
The people getting angry

This town, is coming like a ghost town
This town, is coming like a ghost town
This town, is coming like a ghost town”

Now feeling very very old, but we always remind each other that she is two weeks, one day older than me and therefore much older…for two weeks anyway!

Thanks for reading Jx
