It’s 10pm and D is still not asleep, despite having her melatonin over an hour ago. It’s going to be a long night, I think.
We had to go back to school this evening for parents evening, lots of people around, change of routine etc – it’s unnerved her.
D’s teacher seemed to focus on the fact that she still gets anxious around new places and new people (ummm autism?!?) and that she prefers adult-led activities – exactly the same at home on that last point.
She did raise an interesting point though that D is unable to participate in guessing activities – what shape am I holding? What’s going to happen next? Etc. Something I said we’d continue with at home – guess that’s challenging the part of her brain that produces the imaginative aspects?
Hubbie and I raised the issue of the boy who picks on her verbally and this was very strenuously denied. So I’m going to have to rely on my nightly chats with D and keep notes I think.
Another department of the school has lent us a weighted blanket to try out and have produced a social story for being out and about. We will try both out from tomorrow.
I did a blog post on “Food and Autism” earlier, please have a read if you haven’t already 😃
Sorry it’s a short post tonight – slightly distracted! Comments/RTs as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx 😘
